Back in the day…
In June 2009, the literary magazine Barcelona INK began.
As a quarterly, it published 12 issues and gained a good reputation in a niche niche market: a literary magazine in a language alien to the inhabitants of its home.
From the start, its mixture of interviews with well known writers and poets connected to the city (Colm Toibin, Steve Toltz, Pauline Stainer, Alan Jenkins, Richard Thomson, Philip Levine), alongside short stories and poems from new writers living in the city, as well as translations of Catalan authors we admired, proved to be a fascinating mix.
Presentations were packed and popular. Its 12 issues met critical acclaim and a compilation of its greatest hits is available here.
The platform BCN.INK Books was born from the ashes of that magazine and now operates as an echo chamber and occasional publisher for writers not only working in English, but living in Barcelona and Catalonia.
